What do you value the most in your life?

I often question, why it takes something that is potentially life threatening to snap us into ‘thinking’ or should I say ‘feeling’ that which is most important to us in life.

It was on reading Sir Richard Branson’s account in this week’s Sunday Times of what he experienced as his beautiful Caribbean home burnt to the ground, that I reflected ‘well here is a man who is more than aware of his values and what matters most to him’. Having recently been privileged to have VIP seating at the National Achievers Congress, where Sir Richard was speaking, I was able to hear straight from his heart, how the people who worked for him, were the most important part of his business and how he nurtured them.  It is also very apparent in Sir Richard’s personal life that his family and friends are his highest priority.

I always believe everything happens for a reason and maybe just maybe this event ‘happened to’ Sir Richard, not necessarily because of any lesson he needs to personally learn (although that may be true too – only he and time will show that) but because Sir Richard Branson is a role model who is admired throughout the world and people will take note of what has happened and more importantly how well he is handling the situation and the lessons we can all learn from this.

Although deeply saddened by the loss of 15 years of handwritten notes for his autobiography and precious photo’s, he and his family and friends are all safe.

There has been an increasing amount of natural disasters and life-changing worldwide economical events over the last 2 years – WHAT IF these are happening to ‘invite us’ to take note of what is truly important in life? and to encourage us to start living our lives accordingly NOW – not waiting for more events to happen TO US ! We get TO CREATE our lives exactly how we want. I am not a betting person, but if I was, I would bet that when people throughout the world start defining their true values and more importantly living in line with them, the external world will become much kinder to us and an even more wonderful, joyous place to live in.

Whether you are consciously aware of it or not, YOU ARE already creating the events in your world.

It’s time to get more conscious and take action – you have a responsibility to yourselves and the planet on which you live!

Here is a starting point for defining your values

Q. What is truly most important to you?

A. The answer may be Family

– then continue to..

And what does that give you?

Possible answers may be Love, Joy, Fun, Belonging, Security, etc. (It is these words that are your values)

The most rewarding work, I ever done is when I have worked with companies, small businesses, executives, and private individuals alike is when they truly discover their personal and professional values and the rules they have created around them (mostly unconsciously and these don’t always serve them initially, so guess what, they get to design new ones that fully support and serve their values) and then to live and work in line with them, allows something magical to happens – life just works out beautifully.

Warm wishes,
